Ramly bin Hj Ali

Ramly bin Hj Ali, currently a judge at the Court of Appeal, took side on the Perak MB vs. MB on May 12, 2009 when he alone heard the appeal from BN menteri besar Zambry and granted him stay of execution on the High Court ruling, which declared Nizar as the legitimate menteri besar. Ramly’s hearing the appeal alone was a serious departure from the norm of the Court of Appeal, which hears cases in panel of at least three judges.

It must be further noted that Ramly is a novice judge in the Court of Appeal, having only appointed on Apr 15, 2009. But the fact that he was prepared to go the extra mile – hearing BN menteri besar’s appeal the following day and granting the stay of execution within hours – on such a serious constitutional case characterises the shame of Justice Ramly.

He was born on 24.2.1953 in Duyong, Melaka.
